The former is an action based Vedic pooja, however the latter is different.

What is a Yantra?

A yantra literally means a machine. A machine is a combination of very purposeful forms. A Machine which has a certain design, size, space, geometrical form of diagram or an object. In fact, in a yantra, what is more important is a deity at the centre of the diagram or object. Therefore, one should respect the power of a Yantra and ensure that there is a continuous enhancement of power form the yantra.

Now a Yantra is can be for all the nine planets in Vedic astrology or for a specific purpose. This can be in the form of Rahu Yantra, Kubera Yantra or Sri Yantra. In fact, Sri Yantra is the most auspicious and considered sacred of all the Yantras.

What is Sri Yantra?

A Sri Yantra, also known as Sri Chakra Yantra is a Mystic diagram or a Crystalized object used in the Hindu tradition. It consists of nine interlocking triangles that surround a central point known as a Bindu. These triangles represent the cosmos and the human body for good health, prosperity, wealth and overall achievements to a native. In fact, a Sri Yantra is also known as the nav chakra because it can be seen to consist of nine concentric layers that radiate outward from the bindu.

The power of Sri Yantra is not just restricted to the above-mentioned issues. If one follows the rituals mentioned in the Vedas and offer their prayers to Sri-Yantra, then the native is sure to be ward off negative energy from their life and again ward off all problems in their life.

What is the Ritual followed for Sri Yantra?

First a Sri-Yantra can be placed either at home or place of work. This has enormous energy to bring happiness and prosperity in a native’s life. One of the first step to offer prayers to Sri-Yantra is to Soak the same in water. This must do done overnight. Once you remove the Yantra form the Soaked water, one must chant the following mantra 108 times. This ritual is for Hindus.

//Om, Shreem Hreem, shreem, OM Mahalakshmaye Namah //

After changing this mantra for 108 times, place the Yantra on the Eastern face of your residence or place of work. This is the right placement of Sri Yantra. Once you place them, do apply a tilak of Kumkum and Saffron. Then you can chart the above mantra daily, at least once.

For Non-Hindus, the practise remains the same. However, the can place the Sri-Yantra near their holy book. The mantra changes slightly and following is the lyrics for the same.
