According to the story, in ancient times, an ascetic king named Mandhata ruled on the banks of the Narmada River. Once when the king was doing penance, a wild bear came there and started chewing the king’s leg, but the king was engrossed in penance. The bear dragged the king into the forest.

The king got very scared seeing the bear. During this time, he prayed to Lord Vishnu to save his life. Hearing his call, Lord Vishnu appeared there and killed the bear and saved the king’s life. By then, the bear had eaten the king’s leg. He was very sad because of this.

Seeing the king in this situation, lord Vishnu told him a solution. The Lord asked the king to observe the Varuthini Ekadashi fast. The king obeyed the Lord and observed the Varithini Ekadashi fast and worshiped the Varaha Avatar idol.

After this, due to the effect of this fast, the king again got a beautiful body. After death, the king attained Vaikuntha Loka, the abode of Lord Vishnu. The story highlights the transformative power of this fast, showing that devotion and fasting can reverse even the harshest fate.
