According to Hindu calendar, the Krishna paksha of Ashwin month is called Pitru Paksha. Pitru Paksha starts from the full moon of Bhadrapada month and continues till the new moon of Ashwin month. According to scriptures the sheadh karma of the person who dies on the date of Shula Paksha or Krishna Paksha of any month is performed on the same date of pitru paksha. It is also stated in the scriptures that if a person does not know the date of death of his ancestors then the shradh karma of these ancestors can be performed on Ashwin Amavasya. Apart from this, the Shradjh 2024 of the relatives who died in an accident can be performed on the Chaturdashi date.
What is Pratipada Shradh?
Pratipada Shardh is a special ritual performed on the first day of pitre paksha , a 15-day period in the Hindu tradition dedicated to honoring ancestors. This ritual falls on the first day (Pratipada) of the dark fortnight (Krishna Paksha) in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada. Pratipada Shradh is believed to bring peace to ancestors’ souls ensuring their blessings for the family.
Why Pratipada Shradh is Important:
- Receiving Ancestral Blessings: Performing Pratipada Shraddha helps ancestors’ souls find peace. In return, the family receives blessings that bring prosperity, good health, and success.
- Removing Pitra Dosha: Pitra dosha is a spiritual imbalance caused by unhappy ancestors often leading to challenges in life. Observing shradh rituals helps balance these karmic debts and brings harmony.
- Fulfilling Sacred Duty: In Hinduism honoring ancestors is a sacred duty (Dharam). Neglecting this duty is believed to bring misfortune or obstacles.
- Spiritual Connections: Shradh rituals foster spiritual growth connecting the performer with their ancestors and helping them understand the deeper cycle of life and death.
