During Samudra Manthan, there was a 12-day-long fight between the gods and demons to get Amrit. According to the same scriptures, twelve days of gods are equal to twelve tears of humans. Therefore, the great festival Kumbh has been held at every place for twelve years. Using soap or shampoo during bathing is considered forbidden, it is believed that using these things during bathing can impure the holy water. At the same time donating clothes, food, and other things to the needy after bathing is considered auspicious. Apart from this, it is believed that due to the special position of the planets and constellations during the Mahakumbh, the water of Sangam is considered very holy.
