Lord Hanuman- The Birth Story

As per ancient texts, Lord Hanuman was the son of Anjana and Kesari. The legend narrates that Devi Anjana was an apsara named Punjikasthala, an attendant of Lord Brihaspati (Guru). But she was cursed to be born as a female monkey. She was supposed to give birth to an incarnation of Lord Shiva to escape the curse. She undertook severe penance to appease Lord Shiva. Pleased with her devotion and prayers, Lord Shiva granted her the boon. She was reborn as Anjana, the female monkey. One day, she was in deep meditation while worshipping Lord Shiva. It was coincidently when King Dasratha was performing a fire sacrifice (yajna) to get children. Pleased with the penance, Agni Devta, the God of fire, gave a bowl of Kheer as prasadam to the King to be distributed equally amongst his queens. While the queens were consuming the divine prasadam, a kite snatched a part of it and dropped it near where Anjana was worshipping. Then, the wind god, Pawan Deva, carried the prasad into Anjana's hands. She consumed it and gave birth to Lord Hanuman after it. Thus, Lord Hanuman is the incarnation of Lord Shiva and is called his Rudra avatar. With Pawan Dev helping Anjana to consume prasadam, he is also called Pawan Putra Hanuman. The King of monkeys, Kesari, was the father of Lord Hanuman.

Why Do We Celebrate Hanuman Jayanti?

Lord Hanuman is the epitome of immense strength, valour, dedication, devotion, a sense of service and humility. As a kid, he flew up to the sky and swallowed the Sun, thinking it was an apple. He was then punished by the King of Devas, Lord Indra. However, he was extraordinary and powerful but cursed to forget his powers until someone realised him, as was done later by Sugreev during Lord Rama's struggle to get Sita Ji back. The incident of swallowing the Sun left a permanent mark on his chin, giving him divine powers.

Lord Hanuman is an embodiment of vitality and has the ability to transform into any form, move mountains, and fly through the air faster than Garuda. He is a revered deity with supernatural powers and is known for defeating evil spirits. Hanuman played a crucial role in helping Lord Rama to win battle against Ravana and get Sita Ji back. As a strong devotee or Lord Rama and the incarnation of Lord Shiva, he is the most revered deity in Hinduism.
