A Chandra Grahan or Lunar Eclipse holds great importance in Vedic Astrology due to the powerful impact it has on all zodiac signs alike. An astronomical event, closely tied to Surya Grahan or Solar Eclipse, in 2020 there are going to be plenty of eclipses. Lunar eclipses are supposed to happen when the Earth, on its orbital path, blocks the sun’s light, which would otherwise have reflected off the moon.
In other words, when Moon is posited in between the straight line of the Sun and the Earth, then Lunar Eclipses occur. As the Earth is posited in between them, the visibility of the Moon from the Earth is reduced to a minimum. This event can only happen on a full moon night. It is also known by the name “Chandra Grahan” in Vedic Astrology It is supposed to have a great impact on the astrological conditions of a person.

Types of Lunar Eclipses
Lunar eclipses are of 3 types and it is dependent upon the covered portion of the Moon’s disk. The different types of Lunar eclipses are:
Partial Lunar Eclipse: This phenomenon happens when the Earth only partially covers the Moon and casts only its penumbra on Earth.
Total Lunar Eclipse: It is a condition when the Earth is completely over the Moon. During this type of Eclipse, the Moon and the Earth come in a straight line formation with the Sun.
Penumbral Lunar Eclipse: This celestial event happens when the Moon moves and enters the Earth’s penumbra. This obstructs the Sun’s rays from reaching parts of the moon, thus creates a fragmented image of the moon.
Lunar Eclipse And its Close Ties With Vedic Astrology
Even though Moon is not a planet, it is considered as one of the most important planets in Vedic Astrology when an Astrologer is analyzing a Kundali. Moon is considered to be an integral part of Navagrahas. It has different effects on different zodiac signs. It is the controller of the Cancer zodiac sign, remains exalted in Taurus zodiac sign and is debilitated in the Scorpio zodiac sign. It is considered to be nocturnal and feminine in its nature. It also represents Mother in the birth chart. A strong Moon in one’s birth chart indicates a great personality, a sharp mind, and prosperous and happy family life. An afflicted Moon is expected to hinder physical growth and predicts a certain sort of changeability in nature.
Gemstone Pearl is used for strengthening the Moon and its placement in one’s birth chart. The placement of Rahu and Ketu in specific house or signs cause Lunar Eclipse. Ketu is considered as the south node and Rahu is considered as the north node of the moon. The mythology says that when Lord Vishnu tried to kill the demon Swarbhanu, the demon who drank the immortal nectar of life which was gained after Samundra Manthan, his head and torso were separated. After this Rahu and Ketu were formed from Swarbhanu’s head and torso. These two are considered to be the shadow planets that curse the Moon and Sun by creating a shadow on them, which is ultimately known as the Eclipse.
